Lenovo has dumped a teaser video online ahead of a new phone announcement on June 9 and it is a blast from the past in a very good way.
Set in an early naughties high school setting, the video features a hallway full of kids all flipping Moto RAZR handsets in and out of their pockets.
What could it all mean?
Calling out our brief obsession with the Motorola RAZR is a very good idea, but it also suggest that this will tie into whatever Lenovo is planning to release next. Rumours have it that the Moto flagship for 2016 will be called the Moto Z, so it probably won’t be a phone with the same name, but perhaps it will share the same eye-catching design element, in that it may be super slim.
Of course, this wouldn’t be the first time the RAZR name has been evoked for nostalgia purposes. Motorola released a short series of RAZR branded Android smartphones just a couple of years ago, and while they weren’t huge flops, they hardly set the world on fire either.
We do expect something interesting though. Motorola phones tend to have at least one feature that is unique to their handsets. Whether it is a bamboo wooden battery cover or a mini-laptop to dock your phone in. These ideas don’t always work as well as expected, but they do tend to suggest where mobiles could be heading next.
