Nokia's pint-sized Lumia 520 has streaked ahead to be the most popular Windows Phone, according to numbers put together by ad network AdDuplex.
Basing the findings on traffic to AdDuplex content, the company says that 21.3-percent of Windows Phone traffic to its sites comes from the budget-conscious Lumia 520. Second and third place are neck and neck, with the Lumia 920 sitting at 9.3-percent and the Lumia 620 on 9.1-percent, but a distance behind the 520.
These figures correlate with information we have gleaned from traffic to content on WhistleOut regarding the Lumia 520. Our review of the phone remains the most popular Windows Phone review on this site over the past several months, and is in the top 5 reviews across all devices.
The secret behind the success of the Lumia 520 is almost certainly its price. The 520 represents extraordinary value for money when you weigh up its sub-$200 price tag with the level of functionality it delivers.
This is also a good sign for the Windows Phone platform in general. Those who have been following this industry for a while will remember that it was low-cost handsets that introduced Google's Android platform to the mass market. One or two buying generations from now and Windows Phone will be a much more familiar system to many phone owners.
