Now that you have that shiny new Galaxy S5 you'll probably want to protect it. Here are some of the best GS5 cases from around the web. Most of these manufacturers have multiple product lines so be sure to check out their whole range, but we've also selected our favourites if you want help trimming back the options.
Spigen Neo Hybrid
Spigen has a full range of Galaxy S5 cases available, from the protective Tough Armor to the useful Wallet S. Our pick is the humble Neo Hybrid, which has some good durability without sacrificing style.
Spigen cases have a good reputation. Their cases boast well thought-through designs that don’t compromise on usability, and are usually not overpriced.
The Neo Hybrid is available in six colours: red, slate, yellow, silver, blue and gold.
- The multi-layer design means that you can use the whole super-protective case, or slim it down and use fewer parts for day-to-day use.
- There are three tiers of colour-picking instead of the usual two, meaning you can personalise it even further.
It’s not the cheapest case around at $59.90, but it’s fairly standard for a heavy-duty option. You’ll be hard pressed finding something this tough that also lets you add your personal style, or decide when to use all the armour and when to only use some of it.
Pandamimi Wallet Case
Price: $8.98 (variable)
The Pandamimi wallet case is a cute little number that you can pick up from Amazon, Ebay and a few other vendors. Of course, wallet cases abound, but the Pandamimi stands out thanks to its eye-catching style.
There are five colour schemes to choose from but not all of them are available at every location. Prices on Amazon vary depending on whether or not you’re a Prime member and there are only four of the colour options. Ebay prices are unpredictable because, well, it's Ebay.
You can get one for as low as $5.99 with an extra $4.99 for shipping. Alternatively, if it’s part of an order $35 or more, you can grab it for $8.98 with free shipping.
The standard Folio has room for your credit card, while the full wallet has three card slots and an additional storage pocket for notes or another card.
Incipio is another trusted case manufacturer with a variety of different products. The GS5 line is still mostly coming-soon, but going by Incipio’s strike rate in the past we feel comfortable suggesting them.
The Highland is the one that most stands out for us. It’s a mixture of the classic protective case with the usefulness of the Folio. The brushed aluminium shell protects from drops, while the wrap-around cover keeps your screen scratch-free and can double as a stand.
It’s available in five colour options for $39.99. Alternatively, you could go with the PlexFolio case, which is available now in two colours for just $29.99. The PlexFolio is a cheaper version of the Highland that ditches the brushed aluminium for what Incipio calls “Plextonium” to keep the price more appealing.
Griffin is where you go if you want an ultra-durable case with no bells and whistles and the Survivor is their top-dog of toughness. It's more protective than the Otterbox Defender, but it doesn’t come apart to slim it down for day-to-day use. Despite its necessarily bulky design, it’s still a stylish case with good grip. Right now it’s only available in black for the GS5, but that should change within a few months.
Shipping isn’t too expensive either, at about $8 international and free within the US.
