HTC Desire C Reviews

Average Score:

"There are a few things going for the HTC Desire C, and its appearance is one of them. The handset has a very sweet, rounded and compact form, which utilizes mostly plastic, as one would expect in a budget phone. " 8/10 Stars

"There’s a lot to be said for attention to detail and great design. The HTC Desire C has both and works with the Android newbie in mind. Rather than throwing the kitchen sink at the dinky smartphone spec sheet and hoping that Android devotees note the inclusion of bells and whistles, HTC has a more measured approach and is one of the few manufacturers to manage Android 4.0 as standard on this size of smartphone." 4/5 Stars

"Probably the best entry-level Android phone you can buy today. The Desire C is cheap on price, but not on features. OK, the screen isn't a patch on the One series phones, and the camera is pretty awful, but ignoring that, the Desire C is incredible value for money."

"Thanks to the limitations in the power departments there's none of the 3D animations you see on the more powerful HTC handsets, with all screen transitions and effects staying flat, although we're not sure that will peturb many users." 3.5/5 Stars

"Battery life for the Desire C is good, with the phone lasting a full day of moderate use with ease, and even making it through two if you're not a heavy gamer and avoid watching feature length films on it. Of course, the smaller screen and less powerful processor help with this." 7/10

"The five-megapixel camera continues HTC's improvements in this area and is capable of delivering some decent pics in good light. It starts up quickly too, which is a pleasant surprise considering the sluggishness elsewhere. Features include face detection and smile capture, plus there's a range of effects to play with -- not a bad little snapper in all." 7/10

"The HTC Desire C packs a 5MP fixed-focus camera that does stills of up to 2592 x 1944 pixels and records VGA video @ 30fps. There is no LED flash and no shutter key either. Given the lack of autofocus the lack of a dedicated camera is hardly as big an issue, but it still would have come in handy for quickly accessing the camera app."

"As we've come to expect from HTC, where the Desire C definitely gets things right is in its styling and build quality. A nicely rounded matt plastic back butts up to a real metal bezel that surrounds an unbroken slab of toughened glass. It's simple but HTC has really made the most of things with some clever little touches. For instance the thumb notch used to prize off the backplate mirrors the power button on the top edge while the holes for the earpiece speaker are micro-drilled into the metal bezel, rather than there just being a big hole covered with a grille. "This is a small phone. On the plus side that means it’ll fit little hands easily, and sits well in even the smallest of pockets. Reaching across the screen one-handed when using the other to hold on to swaying public transport is easy too. What the overall size means, of course, is a relatively small screen. It is arguably about as little as smartphone screens can usefully be these days at 3.7in. "

"There's little in the way of extras either, with no HDMI output and no flash for the five-megapixel camera. None of these are a disaster on a budget handset, but a big disappointment is the measly 320x480 screen resolution. This makes everything on the 3.5in screen look soft at best, and blurry at worst. "The HTC Desire C delivers Android Ice Cream Sandwich to the budget end of the smart phone spectrum, but this sugary goodness can't compensate for under-powered hardware. Even at this affordable price, there are more powerful and capable budget blowers up for grabs." 2.5/5 Stars
