BTBroadband + Evening and Weekend Calls

BT offer a comprehensive broadband package with many different features and options available to enhance each broadband plan. You will need a BT phone line and will pay a line rental directly to BT. Broadband plans may also be bundled with call plans, TV packages or both - you can choose from one of the packages online, or alternatively build your own package, choosing the broadband plan, call plan and/or TV plan best suited to your needs.

Availability

You can check for speed and availability of this service by entering your phone number into the BT website.

Switching Broadband Providers

Ask for a Migration Authorisation Code (MAC) from your current broadband provider for minimum downtime – there will be a maximum 30 minutes of intermittent connection while your line is tested. Your account will usually become active within 5 working days. Full details of how to migrate from another broadband provider are provided on the BT website.

Hardware

A wireless BT Home Hub with N technology (which increases the wireless data transfer rate and reliability of the connection) is included with all BT broadband plans. You can make cheap UK and international calls through your broadband connection by plugging your phone into the hub (a Home Hub phone is included for Broadband Unlimited customers). You can also connect certain gaming devices, iPods and phones.

Installation

Easy self-installation using Broadband Wizard – the BT Home Hub can be up and running within minutes.

Professional installation by BT Home IT Support engineers can also be booked (online or via phone) for a fee.

Features

Uploads

Uploads are included in your data allowance, but BT services such as BT Broadband Talk, BT Vision and BT Digital Vault are not.

Technical Support

Free telephone support is available 24/7 on the broadband helpline. There is also a Broadband Support area online, with forums and a searchable database available to help answer your queries.

Online account management

You are able to login to your account online on the BT website, allowing you to manage many aspects of your account 24/7.

Excess Data Usage

Once you go over their data allowance 2 months in a row you are charged £1 per GB (rounded to the nearest GB), starting from the second month. A Fair Usage Policy applies.

Very heavy users on all plans may have their speed throttled during peak hours (typically 5pm to midnight).

Email

BT broadband plans come with up to 11 email accounts, via BT Yahoo Mail. Each account has unlimited storage and has anti-virus protection and spam-filters.

Webmail

Available on all plans, webmail allows you to send and receive emails from any internet connection.

Security

Basic security is included for Broadband Option 1, and Advanced Security from McAfee for Broadband Options 2 and 3, along with BT Family Protection, which allows you to ensure a safe online environment for your children.

BT NetProtect Plus provides advanced online protection including firewall, anti-virus and anti-spyware, as well as identity theft protection. This service does not currently work with Apple Macintosh computers.

BT Digital Vault

You can automatically protect photos, videos, audio and other documents using the BT Digital Vault, a high-security online storage system. All BT Total Broadband customers receive 5GB storage free of charge, which can be upgraded for a small monthly fee.

Broadband Talk

You can plug a BT Hub Phone or touchtone phone into the BT Home Hub and make calls over your broadband connection. The quality of reception may not be as clear as your landline though.

Broadband Talk customers can also download Softphone software from the BT website, which allows you to use your computer to make phone calls via VoIP (Voice over Internet Protocol) technology.

Land Line

All broadband plans can be bundled with a call plan. Customers receive free calls at specified times, depending on the package chosen. Free calls means calls up to 60 minutes to numbers beginning 01, 02 & 03, after which time standard rates apply. You can hang up and redial after 1 hour as many times as you like to continue your free call.

TV

BT Vision is on-demand digital TV for BT Total Broadband customers. You can watch a variety of shows using the Vision+ box, with different priced packages to choose from. The Vision+ box also allows you to pause & rewind Freeview shows and record shows, as well as cach up on the best of the previous week’s TV from all five main channels.

Mobile Broadband

If you sign-up to an 18 month contract can add a mobile broadband dongle for a one-off fee. The USB modem works over the 3G network, with 80% of the UK covered. Download speeds are up to 7.2Mbps.

1GB data is included to get you started, then usage can be topped up online or via a BT Mobile Broadband eVoucher. Data bundles will last for 1 calendar month or until the specified data allowance is reached, whichever is sooner. Unused data cannot be carried over.

Inclusive WiFi minutes are included with each broadband package. These can be used by customers to get online in BT Openzone hotspots.

BT Infinity

BT has just launched a new fibreoptic product, providing their most powerful connection to the internet. Upload speeds of up to 40Mbps and download speeds of up to 10Mbps are possible with this product. Customers are eligible for free engineer installation and receive a free wireless BT Infinity Home Hub and vDSL modem - installation may take up to 3 hours. Most of the features available to other broadband customesr are available to BT Infinity Customers.

This product is not currently available in all areas.
